NEVER LOSING HOPE IN GAZA
Join Tim Livesey as he speaks to Suhaila Tarazi, the director of the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Suhaila looks back on her childhood in Gaza, her education, and the culture shock she experienced when she came to study in the UK.
The conversation focuses on present-day Gaza, which Suhaila describes in vivid detail. She speaks passionately about why she has chosen to stay and work in Gaza, despite many of her family and friends having emigrated to the States.
Suhaila shares how Al Ahli is helping people in desperate need. She describes the many challenges they face - restrictions of movement on people and goods, and shortages of electricity, medicine and medical supplies - yet explains why she is hopeful for the future and believes that peace will one day prevail in Gaza.

Located in the centre of Gaza City, Al Ahli Hospital treats 36,000 patients every year. It is a beacon of hope and light in a troubled community and its doors are open to everyone in need. Al Ahli provides in-patient and out-patient care, and has a 24-hour emergency department. It provides free mobile clinics to villages across Gaza and partners with local community organisations to provide vital training in areas such as basic first aid, counselling and social work.
