Lifesaving surgery in Syria
24-year-old Abbas lives with his wife and two daughters in Aleppo. A few years ago, their house was destroyed during the Syrian civil war so now they have to pay to rent accommodation – something that puts a huge strain on their limited finances.
Abbas works as a car painter, but the chemical fumes from the car paint have taken a toll on Abbas’ health, and last year he began suffering from severe shortage of breath.
Unable to afford medical treatment, Abbas turned to our partners The St Vincent de Paul Society. Embrace funds mean the Society can help Abbas, and people like him, get the vital medical care they need.
Abbas’ condition was so serious that he needed lung surgery. Thankfully, the surgery was successful and he has now returned to work – but now he is aware of the dangers of the paint fumes and says, ‘I have started to have a healthier lifestyle now.’
