Welcoming Sudan’s Refugees in Egypt
The UN has warned that the current conflict in Sudan has triggered a humanitarian crisis both within the country and its neighbours. Egypt, to the north, is one of the primary destinations for thousands seeking refuge. Nadia* and her young family recently crossed the border into Egypt, but like so many fleeing the violence, they had had to leave everything behind and had nothing to survive on:
After Nadia’s civilian husband was killed in the crossfire in Sudan’s capital city, she fled with her two children to Egypt. But they only managed to get as far as Aswan (southern Egypt) before running out of money. Someone helped her to contact the humanitarian assistance department of our partner, Refuge Egypt. The staff immediately sprang into action, paying for her transport to Cairo and finding accommodation for the family. They are continuing to provide them with food and ongoing support.
